Yesterday at Reeds we were celebrating Earth Day!
This day each year is dedicated to reflecting upon our past and committing to our future to encourage biodiversity growth. Here at Reeds we recognise the importance of protecting our planet and adapting to overcome environmental issues the construction industry causes. This post will highlight how the construction industry is doing their bit for the planet.
Our soil stabilisation division
This segment of Reeds are specialists in making unsuitable ground fit for purpose, but also plays its part in helping the planet. The implementation of soil stabilisation improves soil characteristics for a wide range of solutions, for example it allows site won material to be kept/used on site resulting in the elimination of off siting and disposal of previously unusable material. Plus the decreased requirement of additional plant to double handle material and saving of imported additional material. All greatly reducing environmental impacts, lorry movements and fuel usage.
Wacker Neuson and their zero emissions line
With up to a 93% reduction in CO2 emissions over the products lifetime and no compromise on performance, these machines are perfect for any construction site, particularly those in emission-sensitive areas. The line includes vibratory rammers and plates, dumpers, excavators, wheel loaders and telehandlers. As well as this, Wacker are in the process of changing their 20L oil drums from plastic to metal, drastically lowering their yearly output of plastics and utilizing a sustainable material.
Gyru-Star, who reduce waste with their compact screening solutions
Their equipment means the existing materials on site are reused and new building materials can be produced from demolition waste, drastically reducing the amount sent to landfill. On top of this, there is a reduction in transport emissions as the material is recycled and reused; no transport is needed to bring new materials to site.
